Who Is The Best Domain Name Registration Company?

screenshot of domains home page

When you're talking about the best here we are not talking about free. It does cost money to register your domain name. I know a lot of people want to start a business online and think it's free. It's never completely free. Please tell me you didn't believe that. Did you?

There is a lot that can be had completely free like free trials and free training but there is nowhere on the planet that you can register your business whether that's offline or online for nothing. It's not a big start up cost but never the less it's a cost of doing business.

What You Need

Your domain provider no matter who you choose should be able to provide:

  • access to millions of available domain names
  • provide you with thousands of top level domains for sale
  • offer you.com, ,.net and .org extensions in a flash

You should be able to search, access and purchase all these options with ease and at an accelerated pace.

Does It Include Everything?

The best domain registration provider will provide you with some options to help you with your business. Options like:

  • ability to access emails
  • domain protection and privacy
  • each domain comes complete with it's own email address
  • no worry of upsells
  • no sliding scale of price appreciation

All your domains should come complete with these features and you should not have to look elsewhere.

What About Security?

You want to look for services that offer you protection against spammers, unwanted sellers and even from your competitors. I have a sign on the front door of my house which implicitly states, 'No Solicting Allowed'. It still doesn't stop salesman from trying to sell me a natural gas contract. You need privacy and protection at all times.

A Simple Set Up

You want to choose a company that is going to make your set up simple and most of all easy. You need:

  • simple activation
  • no long waits before it's ready
  • no selling me more stuff
  • no confusion during any step

Let's Compare

    Hi Peter,

I couldn’t agree with you more. I’ve been a premium member of Wealthy Affiliate since July 2016 and I decided to go yearly in December 2016. Like you, I don’t plan to leave anytime soon. In fact, I’ve transferred my domain names from two other hosts to WA. The experience has been wonderful and the community has been very helpful. Plus, I get great site support and all of the pecks that come with hosting my domain on Wealthy Affiliate (premium DNS, SSL Certificate, privacy protection, and email accounts).

    Wish you the best!

Hi Princila. Everything is right here in a great one stop shop. Wealthy Affiliate is definitely the learning platform you want to be on. Thanks for your kind words and for stopping by.

Buying a domain is almost like by physical property, just not as expensive. You can have a website for free but without owning the domain, your website wouldn’t be yours to do with as you please. Even though I prefer renting an apartment vs owning a home, domain owning doesn’t have as much upkeep.

Quick question, I’ve been using Namecheap for 3 years and it’s never cost me 42.63 a year. The only downside I found about Namecheap is that it takes 4 days for the DNS server to register with your host. Not to say I won’t be using WA for any future domains, Namecheap is great for those with low budgets and starting from scratch Online businesses

That price is including all the extras listed on the table. Check again you probably only used the register domain feature and not security email etc. etc. I use Namecheap too and have never waited longer than a couple hours to connect with either Siteground or Wealthy Affiliate. I have no idea why you waited that long. Contact Namecheap support.

  3. I would definitely agree with you, Peter. I’m a member of WA as well and I didn’t realize how good of a deal it really was to have bought my domain through them. I knew it was cheap, but I didn’t realize how much the competitors charged for the same services.
    Thanks for the information.

  4. I agree with you that buying a domain name is the first stage into setting a business, it does not matter if an online one or a brick and mortar one. These days your business needs a web presence no matter what it does, it is like its window to the world. Given that you need one anyway, then it is better to look for where you can get better value for money.

I own several domain names with different registrars, and must accept that Wealthy Affiliate’s offer is very generous. One of the features I like from them, is that, if I want to revamp a website, I can create the new one on one of their free offered domain names, and once I am happy with it, then I can transfer it to my own domain without having to disrupt the normal running of the live business website for too long. This feature reduces the downtime of the online business considerably.

    Hi Peter

I have been a premium member at Wealthy Affiliate for some time now, and I always wondered exactly this. I never thought the difference between domain hosts would be so different. I’m really glad I found Wealthy affiliate, it has helped me grow as a professional in numerous ways. I would recommend it to anyone!

    • Peter

Hi Luis, It’s getting to be a very competitive field. I am sure we will see many more new players as the years go by and mobile explodes. Thanks for stopping by:)

    Hi Peter,
This comparison is very revealing, why does Godaddy charge so much for a SSL certificate? The other 2 only charge approx $9 per year. When i checked there last month the first year was cheaper, but every year after was $99.99. This is outrageous!
Wealthy Affiliate is the best, because of what you get for the price. As you said, no one can compare.

    • Peter

I used GoDaddy once to register a domain a few years back. I found their support slow and not very helpful. I hope they have improved since then but I won’t be using them again. Thanks for dropping by and asking Greg. All the best of success to you.

  7. I didn’t realize that registering your domain name with Wealthy Affiliate had such great service and protection. I think I will make some changes while renewing. Thanks for sharing this important information.

  8. Great information…
I have tried Godaddy and have some domains still there…
It’s a pain whenever I try to renew or buy a new one on Godaddy. There are so many upsells avoiding them is like avoiding a minefield.

I bought a domain from Wealthy Affiliate and it’s awesome.
The blog is built on a WP platform and it’s so easy and convenient to maintain.

    Thanks for the info Peter…

  9. Hi Peter,
It looks like SSL certificates and email accounts are the main problem with the other companies in your comparison. I have had domains with GoDaddy in the past and I wasn’t paying that much but I never had SSL so I can see how appealing Wealthy Affiliate is. How long does it take to get up and running?

    • It takes minutes to get up and running and free to get started with Wealthy Affiliate Craig. I used Godaddy once and would never go back. You can get better value for your money elsewhere that’s for sure. Thanks for dropping by Craig.

Wow that comparison chart is a real eye opener! I might have to rethink a few things, thanks for the info, Peter!
